Horse Movie Review: The Derby Stallion

The Derby Stallion
The Derby Stallion has a very common story line for a teenage horse movie.  Teenager doesn't know what he wants from life.  Parents know best.  Teen turns to horses and disreputable trainer.  Parents don't understand or approve.  There's lots of arguing, learning to ride and then they live happily ever after.  Where this story differs is the teen, Patrick McCardle, is played by Zac Efron.  If you are a young girl in love with horses and Zac, it doesn't get any better than this.

I thought Zac's acting was a little rough but that did not matter to my daughter for one second.  My daughter is in love with both horses and Zac so this is one of her favorite horse movies.  The Derby Stallion is rated PG and while it would never make my Top 10 Horse Movie List, it is a good honest family movie.  So, if you are horse crazy and a Zac Efron fan or are like my family and need to watch every horse movie, you shouldn't miss this one.

  1. You don't just teach a horse to jump and then race it and win. Nice horse though.
